What's the fastest security method? I know their is a noticable difference between WEP 64-bit and 128-bit, but I don't know how they compare to WPA and WPA2. I don't care how secure it is, I just need the fastest.

The fastest would be 64-bit WEP/ but it can be cracked in less than an hour. and tbh there is no point in having that surity in the first place.

are you using wireless over a long distance?

    No, just one room over.

There's just old people in my neighborhood and we don't have any important files on our computers.

I just wanna have the basic password so that if my neighbors ever get computers, they won't accidentally connect to mine.

mac filtering is the fastest by far, and if you are really, really, really sure about your neighbors and neighborhood it is the way to go.

Me I'm worried about that apartment building filled with college students that occassionally has Big Yagi antenna sticking out of some windows.

In my opinion, WAP in not very secure and it sure has a performance hit. This becomes really apparent with 128 (or 256) bits level, but I find it noticable even with just the 64 bits.

WPA with AES seems really fast, almost transparent. I think it is the way to go.
