I am at college and I just purchased a BEFSR41 v2 for my laptop and for my file server that I use to store my stuff. My problem is that I cannot connect to my file server and I think the problem may be caused by my router.

My laptop is at and I am using FreeNAS on my file server. The FreeNAS operating system is set to use - My problem is that my file serevr is not showing up in my DHCP client table and I am not 100% sure how to assign that an IP Address.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you assigned the ip to the fileserver then it wont show up in the dhcp table anyway as its not being sent an ip by dhcp.

try pinging the fileserver and check all connections if you cant get a response

Ok it pings. I guess it must be something wrong with the FreeNAS Operating System.

if its pinging then its obviously there, maybe check sercurity permissions?

The thing is that I am pretty sure it has something to do with the router for this reason.

My dad setup the fileserver at home using the NETGEAR router we have at home and he was able to connect to the server from a Windows XP computer.

Has anyone else had a problem connecting to a Unix/Linux machine from an XP machine?
