firmware for wrt55AG v1

I have a WRT55AG V1 that I've been having a bunch of problems with. Two or three times a day the internet connection drops for no apparent reason. In addition, when I connect my laptop to the network it cannot see the router. Thus it gets its DHCP address from the ISP and cannot see the restof my network devices.

I was about to chuck the wrt55AG and replace it when someone suggested I check here for a 3rd party firmware upgrade. I currently running 1.02 from 3/2002 which I thought was the last valid firmware from Linksys for the v1 router.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks in advance! :drinking:

BTW - I was considering purchasing one of the SRX400 models and heaving this old dog... but I'd like the put the money towards a 24 in display instead.

I dont think there ever was a 3rd party firmware. and the latest is 1.20 03/2003 which is old and has no fixes for your problems.

tbh i would save some money and go with a WRTSL54GS since 3rd party firmwares are not supported for this device.

Well, someone reported that OpenWrt RC4 worked for him on this device. YMMV.

    Linksys info is wrong

I know this is old - but, it bears noting: FW v1.20 never existed for this router. The WRT55AGv1.24.31-LED.trx is actually v1.02. The latest FW for this router was v1.04 found here.

    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/wrt55ag_v104_fw.trx

1.04 solves some problems, but creates others. v1.02 seems to best best for most applications. YMMV

The WRT55AG is listed as "Untested" on the OpenWRT Table of Hardware.I haven't had the balls to try it on mine. I like my boxes took much to risk cratering them.
