    Hello everybody,

I have an Linksys WRT54G v2.2 with the latest EU firmware (4.20.7 I think), and I expierence a lot of crashes with this router when I use programs like eMule, Bittorrent and so on. Is there a way to fix this by installing 3rd party firmware?

Also I would like to have the best firmware around. With best, I mean speed, stability and reliability. I don't care so much about how much functions are included, because I rarely use them.

And how big is the chance that something goes wrong when flashing my router to a 3rd party firmware?

If you reset the router to factory defaults, before updating the firmware and doing the update from a wired connection, ther is little chance of something going wrong.

Consider first that it may not be the ROUTER at fault here.

Are you using stable versions of software? What versions? Have you read through the FAQ for that software, often there is a section on recommended network settings for home network use. You should have reasonable limits set for number of concurrent connections and up/down bandwidth, not "unlimited".

Check those things over FIRST, in my opinion. Otherwise you risk bricking your router for no reason. Sure you might have new firmware, and still same problem because you are using BitComet or some other ill-behaved client software with wrong settings for your connection.
