Perhaps somewhat off-topic but... the Fit-PC2i (a new model of the Fit-PC2 but with dual gigabit ports) looks like it would be a sweet router with some router software like smoothwall, pfsense, Clarkconnect, etc...

"Measuring just 4"x4.5"x1.05" and weighting mere 13oz the fit-PC2i provides the complete PC functionality – up to 2GHz CPU, up to 2GB RAM, internal SATA HDD, resolution of up to 1920x1200, digital audio, dual LAN and WLAN. All in an industrial grade die-cast aluminum shell that runs fanless at 6-8W. ..."

Any thoughts? Apparently it's available from Jan 2010, but no pricing announced yet.....

EXPENSIVE though, about 450-500USD for that one.

Yeah, but 2GHz CPU & 2GB RAM? :) It could act as HTPC, router, NAS, all-in-one. :)

    Purpose

The purpose of a standalone router is that it does one thing, and does it well. It's still too expensive when i can get a shuttle XPC for a bit more that has an upgrade path.
