Then you should probably use different tagging (not to use v139 etc). It is a little bit confusing right now. I thought shibby will release v140 with all your changes and then you will release minor builds based on v140.x, but the reality is different :(

I'm too fast, the changes are coming all the time, Shibby could not bring all the changes unfortunately...

It's not possible, my changes are coming all the time, he's got 100's of firmware to compile. I will change the name of my builds so as not to confuse :)

@kille72 so your Build/Fork is Bleeding Edge (New Funktions/New Bugfixes) and Shibby Build more Stable???

  6. kille72

    kille72 LI Guru Member

I definitely do not see that my versions are not stable. Check the code in GIT to see what's missing, our versions are different, and what changes do not exist. Last of my changes are not included in Shibby's v140...

    Example:

    - tinc: Add daemon poll option to check if the daemon is running, similar to OpenVPN
    - fix "Enable DSCP Fix", and make it MultiWan aware
    - Cleaned/Modified UI files according to the Web Consortium W3C standard 1/2
    - Added extended 4G signal info to log, corrected watchdog script, fixed wan-up problems on 4G modems, improved vpnrouting script logic, other small changes
    - Possibility to select LTE band and roaming in 4G/LTE connection
    - httpd: Updated gencert.sh script
    - router/Makefile: Following AsusWRT on OpenSSL compilation https://goo.gl/ntqfq1 (@RMerlin: Was that good or unnecessary change?)
    - OpenSSL: Added -startdate & -enddate arguments in req command
    - Updated basic-network.asp so with LTE modem using qmi_wwan module one can only choose 'Auto' or '4G Only' network type
    - Changed on openvpn client configuration page 'tls-remote' option to 'remote-cert-tls', because 'tls-remote' is removed in newest openvpn 2.4.x versions
    - Cosmetics in tools-shell.asp script (line break in results)

    Thank you for the Info.

Yes i wrote MORE Stable because old known Versions are used. I like your Version better because of the NEW Released Build in Versions. So sorry if it sounds bad / harsch.

PS: I use your Build since first Build Thank you.

Getting rid of OpenSSL hacks was necessary to make genrsa command work, and to actually make the binary add the SAN extensions when generating a certificate, which didn't work with the old method of generating a certificate. I will look into reducing size of the OpenSSL binary later on, but I'm satisfied with what I achieved so far, not willing to step back to reduce binary size when I have plenty of flash to spare on both of my routers.

i can`t wait forever ;) Kille72 compile ARM version only. I need much more time to apply all change to Mipsel and compile K26, K26RT-N and K26RT-AC. Not all changes from ARM are compatible with Mipsel (older kernel and toolchain). Ex. i have big issue to compile latest openvpn on Mipsel :/

Already posted this in the Tomato MultiWAN thread (Shibby), but seems as your fork is more active and developing.

Please do take a look at below bugs, are they fixed in your releases? Seems that they still aren't fixed in Shibby v 140.

    1. DNS-servers. Tomato seem to default to the WAN1 aquired DNS-servers (/tmp/etc/resolv.dsnmasq), however when issuing "ip rule" you can clearly see all DNS-servers from every WAN-connection setup as policy based routing. But then again, the only ones actually used is from WAN1...

    2. There is still some issues with MultiWAN routing feature in GUI. The rules get only applied randomly after reboot, often I'm forced to go and "save" them again so they get applied to the WAN_PBR IP-tables table. Very annoying and unreliable.

    3. Still takes a long time for USB-3G dongle to connect, 5-10 min compared to other WAN-connections. Sometimes an extra reboot or two is required for it to actually connect. Also very unreliable, and unfortunately somehow affects the internet access first minutes until it connects because there seem to be some background scripts happening and changing routes and what not when it finally connects.

I'll also take this opportunity to remind of earlier suggested improvements for Tomato MultiWAN

    1. Because it's now multi WAN, one should be able to setup more parameters independently per WAN in GUI. Ie DDNS, DHCPc options, IGMPproxy upstream interface etc. Now everything defaults to WAN1.

    2. You should be able to use the extra WAN even if set in fail-over mode (weight 0), ie for policy routing. Now policy routing in GUI only seem to work when all WAN's are in round-robin. Not smart.

    3. Notification/alerting of some kind when Tomato changes WAN-connection (failover), also in GUI a nice idea if you could see which WAN is active at the moment. Something like a WAN status/health-report.

i've had toastman or shibby for the past 3 years, and for the last month, your fork (Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 -139-kille72- K26ARM USB VPN-64K) on my r6300v2. i recently upgraded to your v139 (2nd upload version). for the first time ever, i had a 'spontaneous' reboot after about 2 days of uptime. dmesg (after reboot) shows no problems. i'm wondering about the native ext4 driver? i have a usb stick auto-mounted for network stat logging.
let me know what i can do to help track this down.

Just set "Console log level" to 8 and "Custom Log File Path" of Syslog somewhere to /opt so you should be able - after reboot - copy/paste it here.

//EDIT: ah, you already did it...

When WAN is set as failover (weight=0) then default Gateway for this WAN is deleted. This is why you can`t use this inferface in routing policy. But there is a little trick to use failover`s WAN to go trought it into specify destination. Just add route in static routing table.

    Will think about it.

    on further digging:
my tomato box rebooted after trying to negotiate a new lease from my cable modem, which also rebooted at the same time. the cable box and my r6300v2 have uptimes within 30 sec of eachother. i'm wondering if there is something in the new WAN features that is not quite stable.
cable modem: arris tm1602a, on spectrum cable 50/5 speed, no ipv6
router/kille set to 1 wan, no connection check, DHCP, user-enetered DNS, no route modem address (defualt to 0.0.0.0), no ipv6

Could you please compile AdvancedTomato based on kille72 latest build for Asus RT-AC68U? I know that you don't posses this router but your latest build from APR11 works like a charm. I simply don't want to go back to Tomato with old GUI since I understood that NVRAM erase is required coming from AT and I don't have the time to recreate my setup which took me several hours of try and error because I am a layman (a finer word for n00b).

I know this thread is filled with knowledgeable and respected programmers.

But may I ask if there is any way or possibility that a new feature be added to tomato that enables QoS only on a certain WAN when using multiwan or more than one WAN connection.

I've read that QoS only works when there's only one WAN. By adding a feature that allows QoS to work only on a certain wan, this would utilize QoS Capabilities and Multiwan Feature at the same time for more efficiency!

Thank you for the great builds! Hoping to keep the development of tomato shibby going! :)

i have two questions about this.

Does this mean my lte modem could not use the 3Gband?
And if 4G is poor Signal i could not drop to 3G?

Now you have two options, 'Auto' and '4G Only', before there was only one option for 'qmi_wwan'. If you choose 'Auto', 3G will work if the 4G signal is too weak.

@kille72 , I know this may sound way far from what you've been discussing but is there a way that you could add a feature to enable QoS only to certain WAN? since QoS doesn't work when I'm using multiwan. I have one DSL and one LTE modem and I am trying to get QoS to work even on just the DSL line but I can't find a workaround since the graphs and details are automatically unclassified when I set 2 WANS on my network. Sorry for the trouble!

Hey guys, I know this isnt the ideal place to ask for help but I need some in depth assistance. I bought a TMobile TM-AC1900 (rebranded Asus RT-AC68U) and have been trying to convert it to run AdvancedTomato.

I succeeded in updating the CFE and loading stock asus firmware .1703 (which allows telnet and flashing other firmwares). Everything appeared fine, the GUI worked and had cleared my wifi names etc. I rebooted in rescue mode and uploaded the Advanced Tomato AIO 3.4-140 (MD5 hash checked) and on reboot I coudlnt connect to the web interface. No problem I thought maybe it uses a different IP scheme than the 192.168.29.1 default. I tried manually configuring my IP to 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.0.2 ... I was unable to connect to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

I tried re-enabling DHCP and rebooting the router/my PC several times but no luck. I am able to restart the router in recovery/rescue mode and see the asus firmware upload page but nothing else. I tried clearing NVRAM from there but no luck.

One flashing guide mentioned needing the clear the NVRAM using telnet before the router would work properly with AdvancedTomato, is that an avenue I should pursue or would the recovery page work just as well? I'm at a loss here with my semi-bricked router =/

  60. Darkbing

    Darkbing Network Newbie Member

No problem I've encountered this one. Although in another router (RT-n18u) don't panick. Just re-flash the original asus firmware and clear all settings through the gui page of asus.

    1. Then flash back the advancedtomato and wait for about 5 minutes for it to finish setting up after you flash the firmware then you will not be able to access the router through 192.168.1.1 ,
    a. if not try resetting the router with the reset button by pressing it for 5-10 sec. while the modem is on (remember do this when you are still unable to access the router after 5 minutes.)
    b. make sure you are connected through lan and set your IP to static 192.168.1.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.1.1 as your default gateway.

Reason why this happens? It is possible that during the flash some parts got corrupted or some settings are not compatible with the advancedtomato so resetting it would be a great idea.

If still you are unable to access the login page, you can clear NVRAM using telnet after you are able to flash advancedtomato.

The ability to quickly get an detailed overview of the "Established/Time_Wait/Unreplied" connections would be nice. This is already used in the AsusWRT version and could be placed in the Advanced Tomato menu : Advanced Settings > Conntrack/Netfilter.
Ill think the command used for this output is: "cat /proc/net/ip_conntrack"

Apologies but you can get this easily via the shell or GUI/tools/system commands.
Would having a dedicated GUI add any value here? e.g. what would you do with that info within a dedicated GUI? All I can think about would be to copy and paste into a shell to e.g. drop connections but at that point what don't you use SSH directly?

One good idea instead (in my opinion at least) very be to add a number of customizable commands to be run within the system tools page so that "netstat -a" is one click away

@killer72: this should be a very easy one to implement.

you also need to apply that change to rstats.c (same code/change - also missing at @AndreDVJ git)

that way at least "wan_proto" will be used :)
--> "wanXX_" to check_wanup(...) does not work

But i think - not yet perfectly multiwan ready

I never really looked much into that function, but I think regardless of the parameter passed, should default to wan. I sorta agree hardcoding that value seems to be the best, to prevent anything funny (segfaults?) happening with cstats/rstats.

No, couting will work normal on multiwan.
Short story: in case for rstats/cstats that function is used to see if a reconnect of an wan interface happend and catch unwanted traffic peaks for rstats/cstats.
Right now only "wan1" is checked.

Unfortunately that didnt seem to work. At this point I can reset it in rescue mode to bring up the Asus CFE loader (firmware rescue) page which can reboot, reset nvram and upload firmware. I've clicked the reset nvram link twice now and it hasnt helped. I've tried uploading the stock .1703 firmware which had successfully run before but no change occurs.

At this point if I set my computer to 192.168.29.1 I get a notification from windows that there is a conflicting ip address on the network (good sign!) but setting my computer manually to 192.168.29.2 and typing 192.168.29.1 into my browser fails to bring up the web gui. I've tried different browsers too (IE, Chrome and FF).

I forget which firmware I tried to flash after getting the .1703 stock one working but I have an idea of what might have happened. I *suspect* I tried flashing a firmware which requires unlocking this routers onboard flash from 32mb to 64mb, without accomplishing the unlock first. I was following the advancedtomato guide and the ones I found on slickdeals and neither mentioned doing that that.

Any ideas on recovering from trying to flash a firmware that would require more onboard storage than was present? I'm willing to invest in a jtag cable if necessary. I'd like to save this router which I'm fairly sure is still good.

Thanks for the hard work kille72, when the testing is over an advanced tomato version would be awsome.

Suggestion: Please consider adding .sig files for each release for security reasons, especially since a third party site is used for distribution.

Anyway, thanks for the awesome work!

I don't want to wait for an AT release. Would it be possible to export my configuration from AT 139, switch to 2017.1-ARM and import my configuration again?

    Try this:
    1. Take backup off v139 configuration for security purposes if something went wrong
    2. Update directly to v2017.1 without clearing NVRAM, it should work
    3. Clear cache in your browser

Is it safe? NVRAM reset is recommended after every update to avoid issues.

Anyway - 2017.1 flashed on my RT-N18u device, works fine! Thank you!

Try this... [TM-AC1900 (RT-AC68U)] - Bricked while flashing from Tomato to Merlin

I am unable to post links since this is my first, but search for the above thread on snbforums or Google.

I kept having issues flashing after updating my CFE a while back. Firmwares wouldn't upload in the CFE Mini Web. So, I decided to click on the Clear NVRAM from the CFE Mini Web and after that I couldn't access the router. Followed the above link and was able to regain access.

    thanks

another question , in the "ip traffic>last 24 hours" the graph shows 2 minute interval - but those shows an average speed in those 2 minutes ... any way to show the highest speed in this 2 minutes on the graph (its much easer to see what's going on with the - we could call it a "peaks graph" :) ... )

"AdvancedTomato is GUI only based modification of Tomato Shibby mods"
And this: "[Forked off from Tomato-ARM by Shibby, builds compiled by @kille72]

The author of "adwanced" - does not make any changes (it is his assumption) only interface is different from tomato by Shibby.

@ Kille72 - changes are made - they should not result in the need to clean nvram - it may change in the future.

In summary, save the configuration and then flash without nvram cleaning - it should be all right

SO i just use the Upfdate firmware from advance tomato menu and select this firmware AIO?

is there any way i can set the priority of my mobile device connected to router at top most in QOS? some how?
or the priority of the web browsing the QOS stuff is confusing to me and my devices are static i have assigned IP manually to each connected devices

Use the Bandwidth Limiter for that. You can set prio/max/min bandwidth for each IP / MAC. Remember, you can not use QOS and Bandwidth Limiter at the same time.
