free storage space and editing files

first off, how can i check how much free space i have in my router? i'm having trouble finding a command to show me disk space usage.

secondly, is there any way to free up space? i don't think i need all these extra langpack files. i don't need telnetd on the router either. what can i get rid of and how?

also, my ipkg.conf file is incorrect. it has the wrong url for packages. i've tried editing it, but i always get "read only file system". i used this link http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Using#head-10eb9c265f684587f7ed93fa1397ed2945ebb70c to try to edit files, but it says that i can't delete the file, and there is no /rom/etc/whatever file anyway.

i'm trying to install snort, but having a hell of a time of it. there isn't enough space to download the pkg. does everyone running these pkgs have the SD card installed in their router? will these things run properly off of a vfat partition?

telnet to your router and type:

    cat /proc/meminfo

    or

    dh -h

also press TAB button twice. it will list ALL commands you can use :)

make sure JFFS2 is enabled to make free space available.

yeah, i enabled jffs2. just don't seem to have enough space for snort. thanks, those are good commands to know. it seems to be df -h though actually.
