I am using Alchemy-V1.0 v3.37.6.8sv, and I use FreeDNS as a dynamic DNS server. I have a direct URL that I can visit to update the IP address. Is there any way I can configure the router so that if my external IP address changes, it should visit that specific webpage?

    TIA

    Garth

you can do this with dyndns.org
it is built into the firmware in the ddns section

Yes, I have seen that screen. there is also built in support for two other DDNS services. None of which are the DDNS service that I have been using for the last few years. I am using FreeDNS, http://freedns.afraid.org/ .

I know that the router has linux at heart, so it has to be possible to have it load a specific webpage whenever the external ip address changes. I just don't know how.

Alchemy uses ez-ipupdate http://www.ez-ipupdate.com/ which supports only:

    http://www.ez-ip.net
    http://www.justlinux.com
    http://www.dhs.org
    http://www.dyndns.org
    http://www.ods.org
    http://gnudip.cheapnet.net (GNUDip)
    http://www.dyn.ca (GNUDip)
    http://www.tzo.com
    http://www.easydns.com
    http://www.dyns.cx
    http://www.hn.org
    http://www.zoneedit.com

Although the GUI only gives three, you could use an rc_startup command to set the desired (supported) service and options via command line switches. I know you want to use freedns, but such is life until a dev mods the code to add more services. :)

Yeah, I really wish they'd make it compatible with freedns.afraid.org. Anyone out there thinking of doing this? DD-WRT devs, that means you! ;)

BTW, Jagboy, I see that your firmware is not the stock prefinal5. Did you modify it yourself or what?

the firmare that i run is dd-wrt pre5. dd-wrt is another firmware like openwrt or e-wrt.

I know that, but it says "based on" DD-WRT. I'm also running Pre-5 (just got the latest update but I was running the earlier version) and it says "Firmware Version", not "based on". It looked a little odd.

Yeah, I think I got a newer version. I didn't download pre5 until a few days ago and then again today for the newest update (which is worthwhile ;) ).
