My brother-in-law has an high-speed Internet access (cable) that I want to be shared using a wireless router so my girlfriend living in the same building could access the Internet. I installed a cheap Netgear router, connected the brother-in-law in the LAN and my girlfriend use the WAN.

Now, the brother-in-law complaints that his games lags when my girlfriend access this internet. I want to give him full priority over the network. If he suffer any performance lost, he will not want to share his Internet access.

I plan to buy a WRT54GL and install the Tomato or DD-WRT firmware and set QOS for the LAN and bandwith restrictions for the WAN.
    1. Do you think it's a good solution?
    2. Any alternative?
    3. What best for my needs, Tomato or DD-WRT?
    4. Recommended settings?

Do you see any other issues (ex: NAT). I hope to not have to do any port forwaring because it seems to be a real headache. I don't fully understand this "NAT" thing yet.

    Thanks in advance.

The best definition of NAT I found it here:
As any router has 2 IP-adresses and it has a simplified schematics like this one.
