sounds like the wireless setup on your laptop is not set for getting the ip address automatically can you confirm this?

if your running winxp check the properties of the wirless link in winxp and d/click on the TCP/IP setting. this should be set to assign automatically.

you say the LAN port is working fine.

Do a ipconfig /all and let us know the results... (start > run > type cmd press enter) then type the ipconfig /all command hit enter

Have you any security in place to protect your wireless network, such as WEP, MAC Address Filtering? If so, have you configured your client or AP properly for authorized access?

You said there was an IP assigned to your computer, what is it? Can you post your IPCONFIG /ALL results as linksysonline has suggested?

If you are able to ping some of the websites that means there is no filtering or firewall and everything is working fine.As ping packets are smaller than internet request packets, you can try to change advanced w/l settings eg. Fragmentation threshold and RTS threshold.Let me know if that helps

no DNS entries? do you get IP from DHCP or assign static IPs to your PCs?

    power saving mode to highest

In the WLAN adapter configuration change the power management setting to highest. The default value in Dell centrino Laptop is set to lowest to save on battery life. this is same for other laptop brand also.
Some this wcg200 does not work with Power management set to lowest.
