Sorry if this question has been asked before, but if I put a gigabit switch between my wired PCs and my WRT54GS, will my link speeds between PCs be gigabit or will the WRT slow everything down to 100mbs? Here's what i want to set up: My cable modem attached to the WAN port on my WRT54GS, and one of the LAN ports on the WRT54GS attached to the gigabit switch, with nothing else plugged into WRT54GS. Then plug my gigabit-capable PCs into the gigabit switch. Basically I want the WRT to do all the DHCP, routing & NAT (as my internet is nowhere near even 100mbps) but I want to be able to transfer files between my PCs at gigabit speeds. I know I could just buy a new WRT that has built-in gigabit, but I like my Tomato firmware too much. Does this sound like it would work?
Cool, thanks. They aren't gigabit capable as of yet, but I'm going to pick up some gigabit adapters for 'em.
