Hi guys, i'm new here. First off, i'd like to say I have a linksys WRT54G v5 router, and it's an absolute piece of crap. My internet connection gets dropped nonstop whenever i have a lot of active connections open (IE using bittorrent) and it's really annoying I've contacted linksys product replacement and they told me i can choose any version number within the WRT54G series. So between version 1 to version 7, which one would you guys choose? some things to consider - i won't be playing around with 3rd party firmware - i just want the damn thing to be STABLE and as problemfree as possible, meaning no dropped connections like in the ver5. Please help, would like to get this piece of junk replaced asap.. thanks
the WRT54GL is the best oen to go for tbh. though if you want a G the go for a v4 its the same as the GL
thanks for the response.. but just a question, because mine is a normal WRT54G, is it possible to even trade it for a wtr54gl? because they told me that normally they would just replace it with the exact same model
doubt it, the internals are different, the GL has more memory than the v5 and typically costs more. but hey whats the harm in asking?
Now that is an interesting response from Linksys. When I did an RMA return of a WRT54G version 5 I had asked for a version 4 or older and they told me that they could not do that. They sent me a WRT54GL version 1.1 And Welcome to the forums.
