The client is setting a client-gateway VPN. The VPN router has been set to one Static IP & one Dynamic IP. From local group setup it has been set to "IP + Domain Name (FQDN) Authentication"

For the remote client setup the user want to know how to set it for remote client to connect to the VPN router since theres 2 option for Dynamic IP + Domain Name (FQDN) Authentication or Dynamic IP+ Email address (User FQDN) Authentication.
What is the domain name or email address need to input to these fields? Is this the correct procedure to do the setting?

For the sake of simplicity, set your configuration up as you see below:

    Local Secure Group: Subnet

    IP: 192.168.1.x
    Sub Mask:

    Remote Secure Group: Any

    Remote Secure Gateway: Any

    Encryption/Authentication: 3DES/SHA1

    PreShared Key: Enabled

PFS: 0x12345 (It's best to start with 0x followed by numbers for randomness)

On advanced setup, make all timeouts 3600, set your group to 1024 and leave the bottome items unchecked for now until you establish a connection.

You'll have to excuse me if my settings are slightly different. The WRV54G interface is "similar" but not the "same" as the RV series routers.

That being said, use the "domain name" option. If you need a free dynamic dns address, go to www.dyndns.org and register. I use the ddns feature of my WRV54G with a dynamic dns I registered at this site and was up in less than 10 minutes.

how about the VPN client side? If the VPN client is using windows XP VPN client how can i set this up to connect to RV016. Im sorry due to im new to VPN setting. Usually I know VPN client will ask your for login & password in order to connect to VPN router. But for RV016 remote setup it can only set up for Dynamic IP + FQDN or Dynamic IP + Email addr.
how can I create a login & password in RV016 for the VPN client to make authentication with the VPN router?

I have only read of "one" instance where someone actually was able to connect to a wrv54g using the native vpn client on windows xp; for the record I wasn't that person :) I prefer quickvpn first, followed by the greenbow client "if" I am making a direct connection (computer to the modem) just for that particular vpn session.

Ideally, you can use quickvpn (instructions our on the linksysinfo homepage). If you haven't done so, register with www.dyndns.org for a free dynamic dns address. This will get the ball rolling...
