    I need help here. I have a linksys wag54g adsl gateway but my connection keeps getting disconnected easily. It would connect for a while before disconnecting again. This process always goes on for like 10 mins b4 it stabilise. So i called linksys and they sent me a firmware to upgrade.

    However, i'm having problems upgrading. b4 the process completes, i always get the msg "network cable is unplugged" and i would fail to open the page. The gateway would reset, and i can never complete the upgrade. I have asked them and done the following things:
    turning off firewall
    using static ip

    however, nothing works. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

    what way are you upgrading the firmware?

    through web interface or tftp.exe?

    you are upgradeing with a binary file and not a zip file?

    i'm upgrading using web interface and this is the name of the file: WAG54GV2-EU_AnnexA_ETSI_v1.00.19_001_code
    its a binary file. I've just relised now that my version is 1.2, but wat they send me here is v2. Does it mean i can't upgrade using this file?

    Youv'e got it !

    The firmweare you mention is for WAGV2 only.

    You can get a firmware for the V1.2 from the linksys ftp site.

    just make sure you get the right Annex version and chose a firmware for your region first - experiment with firwmare versions at your leisure.

    Linksys download site is here

    It seems that the accepted version in the UK at present is 1.2.7, there is talk of 1.2.9, but this is released for Australian clients (what happened to 1.2.8), and also of 1.3.0 which is available in 'Beta' (i.e. try it at your own risk).

    One thing is clear - the hardware differences between V1 and V2 of the WAG54 mean that if you have V1 you are at the mercy of Linksys.

    As so often what's missing are controlled statements - from Linksys (we wish), from moderators to these forums, experienced users, etc.
