    Hi there,

I've downloaded the source code of this modem/router to mod it so it behaves as a modem.

I know C language and networking RFCs by heart, but I have no idea on Linux kernel or where to start.

    Could you please help me?

I already have a linux i386 running as a development system for cross-compilation and my research is now focused on reading mtd blocks from the device so I can mount squasfs on the development system and modify it if necesary.

What else should I do? Is there a how to start on firmware projects?

    BTW, this comes from:

we (at openwrt.org) are working on making our firmware compatible with the Texas Instruments AR7 platform. Hardware that uses it includes the WAG54G v2, the ADSL2MUE and many other DSL routers. We already have the board support working in the OpenWrt 2.4.30 kernel, and are currently forward porting the device drivers (Flash, Ethernet, DSL, etc.). When we got the stuff working and (more importantly) integrated into our root fs, it should be easy to use it like you described.
If you want to help, please join #WRT54G on irc.freenode.net and ask for wbx, z3ro, wickus, jiauka or nbd.

Cool! I'd love to join you and learn as much as you may want to teach me. I hope I can help there with my understanding on networking technologies so I can give you something in return.

    I'll contact you on IRC.
