HELP with router and xbox 360 issue

In my bedroom I have two computers. I have one DSL bellsouth modem. My DSL modem plugs directly into my Linksys cable/dsl 4-port wired router. Everything works fine.

So my xbox 360 is in my living room. When I want to play xbox I have to unplug my dsl modem and walk it into the living room and connect it. (no big deal, i just have to unplug a few cables)

Well, I can not connect to xbox live. The only way I can connect to xbox live is if I bring my Linksys modem out to my living room, and run my dsl modem into that, and then my xbox 360 into the router.

Anyone know what the hell is going on? It's bad enough I have to move my dsl modem back and forth, but to have to bring my router and my modem back in forth is a pain in the butt. That means i have to unplug 4 ethernet cables and 2 power plugs and walk them back and forth.

I'm trying to figure out why I can't get my xbox working with just the dsl modem? Like some ports are closed or something?

When I try to connect using just my DSL modem to xbox, it says IP confirmed but DNS could not be found.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Same problem

First of all I can't believe how cheap linksys is. With the Indian guy who doesn't even own a computer, let alone even have any idea what DHCP is, helping me on the tech support line.

I'm having a similar problem. I can't get the 360 to work through a router alhtough it works perfectly fine on just the modem. I've forwarded every port that Microsoft has advised I've tried every feasable setting on the 360 and I've messed with numerous settings on the router. What exactly do I need to put in the settings for the router. The XBOX should ONLY need to have automatic settings unless you use PPoE which I don't. This is a load of crap. Linksys get your stuff together. Someone help out please.

I ended up getting it working. But, I ended up getting the wireless adaptor for 20$ for xbox live and a wireless router for 20 bucks. Use your modem directly to your computer....reset your dsl/cable modem. (like mine is bellsouth software when I type in my gateway address into email)

Wireless worked right away once hooked up.
