I am what they call a newbie when it comes towards my router. Recently I have been having problems with my wireless network. Everything is set on default except for my router name, password, WEP, and MAC filter. I am glad I found this site because I have a couple of questions concerning my wreck of a network.

    1. I have a linksys desktop wireless g adapter card and every now and then my computer looses the connection and has to reconnect. I have no idea why but I am guessing it’s the windows wireless manager that is to blame for my problems. Is there an alternative to the windows wireless manager? Or is it not the problem here?

    2. I have noticed even though my signal strength is excellent there is a large speed decrease through the router. For example a laptop connected directly to the modem gets a 1500kbps on the CNET speed test. My desktop upstairs (again with excellent signal) gets only 300kbps. And as of lately my speed has been getting worse and worse. I doubt anyone is using my wifi and I am puzzled why the speed drops so much. What can I do to fix this?

    3. Finally I have seen all this 3rd party firmware for the WRT54G, would it fix any of my problems? If so which one should I get?

    Thanks in Advance
