have just got a wrt54g v2 back from linksys after my v1 just died.

I have put it back into the normal setup that I had the v1 in prior to it dying, however I am having endless problems.

    My network setup:

    X-modem >------- WRT54g >---------Desktop PC

I am not using the wireless side of the wrt54g just yet, only have one desktop pc wired up to it. Now, I am having problems with this setup when I select the x-modem to be in "modem" mode. What this does is it makes the modem invisible, and pushes the ip address given by the isp over to the wrt54g. So the ip address of the wrt54g would be the ip address that my isp specify and

When the x-modem is in modem mode, I am having very random internet access. One minute everything is working fine, and then next i cant access websites or ping.

Now this is the crazy thing, when I put the x-modem in gateway mode, this is where the x-modem will retain the ip address that the isp provide, and acts as a dhcp server. So it will assign ip address 10.0.0.x to the wrt54g.

Under the gateway mode, I have absolutely no connection issues. Everything seems fine and there are no problems.

Why is it everything is fine when I have 2 dhcp servers running in the network? I want to the modem to be invicible and I only want the wrt54g acting as the dhcp server. It's doing my head in, is there a certain setting I need to enable or disable within the wrt54g when the x-modem is in modem mode?

Dont know why my previous wrt54gv1 was fine in this setup, altho I must admit, I cannot remember the settings in the router setup.

Oh and by the way, I am running latest official linksys firmware on the wrt54g. firmware V3.03.6

    Thank you.
Any help would be most appreciated!
