So after much trail and tribulation I found a way to get the WRE54G Range expander working with the WRT54G and WEP. Follow these steps and you should be good to go. 1.) Upgrade your WRT54G to the latest firmware. (Currently 4.07) 2.) Turn off WEP on your router and reconnect to the network. 3.) Reset your WRE54G 4.) Use auto configure to get the WRE54G to bridge to the router. 5.) Download the latest international WRE54G firmware from ftp://ftp.linksys.com/international/firmware I have the US version and it works with this firmware. (Current version is 1.05.08) 6.) Unpack the trx file to your desktop. 7.) Use a browser and go to 192.168.1.240 . This is the default IP if the WRE54G. Use the default password “adminâ€. 8.) Go to the help menu -> upgrade firmware. 9.) Select the trx file your downloaded and hit upgrade. 10.) Cycle the power on the WRE54G and wait for it to reconnect. 11.) Once again browse to 192.168.1.240. 12.) Turn on security and enter your WEP info into the WRE54G. 13.) Unplug the WRE54G. 14.) Re-enable WEP on the router. 15.) Reconnect. 16.) Turn on the WRE54G You should be good to go!
