How are YOU Exploiting a GS's Extra Memory?

Given my noob status, I am very interested, and thought that a thread on this would be useful.

How can one take advantage of the extra RAM in a WRT54GS without compiling one's own kernel? I expect that to also take advantage of the extra Flash Memory, one would have to compile a kernel.

I am beginning to see references to ipkg and /jffs: is this the way? Webpages? How are you exploiting this fount?
