Hi! I have just got my WRT54GL router, and I have been searching around this site for a beginners guide on how to flash it but i cant find anything. Im probably not the first person to ask this question?

    - What I want to now is what firmware is a god and stable firmware
    - How can I flash this to my router?
    - Is there anything that I need to be careful not to?

I would recommend Thibor15c firmware for your GL at the moment since you are a newbie.

    download the firmware here: www.thibor.co.uk

    unzip the binary firmware file.

now logon to your GL's Web GUI using the ip address of the router. (default is 192.168.1.1)

    Username: root
    password: admin

now goto the administration page, then look for Firmware Upgrade page.

in there you select the binary you have just downloaded, then click on upgrade.

you must NOT stop this process once it is uploading. you will kill the router.

make sure you upgrade over a WIRED connection to the router and NOT wireless.

once the firmware has been uploaded the Router will reboot itself. the upgrade process must not be stopped of the window closed.

I got a WRT54GL for one of my customers and neither the TFTP utility nor the GUI in browser will flash Thibor 15C to the router. It keeps saying failed.

make sure you are flashing with the "G" firmware, and if it fails; for any reason, you MUST reboot before trying it again.

I had use the "web way" to DD-WRT (using mini version), thibor, tomato, and the TFTP method with DD-WRT and no problem at all.

    i have a WRT54GL s/n CL7B
which i bought a few hours ago:)
i have read that this router makes problems with P2P
and the solution (by wikipedia(azuras FAQ)) is to Flash it to Thibor or DD-wrt
and then add some start up script

    first question
i have configured my network alreardy
so should i return to factory defults?
and whats about erasing that NVRAM?
    second question
is there is really a problem with P2P?
and is the Azuras solution is the only way???

This is the last oficial firmware for WRT54GL. You can upgrade the firmware via web GUI in the administration tab.

    Saludos ;-)
