how to hide the vendor on wireless

    Hi,

I'm using a WRT54G. When I use tools like network stumbler I can see my vendor, but also others vendors. Some have a "fake" vendor. How do I hide the linksys vendor and display either fake or some invented name?

    thanks,

For what you are asking you just log into the router and change the ssid name from linksys to whatever you want.

I don't think he was saying anything about SSID, but rather the second to last column in NS which is the vendor.

I have no idea where would NS pull this vendor info, but from what I've heard before, I suspect the NS takes this from the MAC-address, imho some series of them have been assigned to major equipment manufacturers.

So my suggestion is to try to play with your router/ap mac-address if you want NS to display a specific vendor for your device.

correct just change the ssid if you have not already and change the mac address as well, that will hide the vendor id

If you look at his attachment he is specifically talking about the ssid. But you do make a point, and you can change how a router appears by changing the oui (first 3 bytes of the mac).
