How to see receive signal strength?

Hi. I want to use two WRT54G for a point to point
    connection.
    The problem is:
It is a long range connection (10km) and
therefore I need good directional antennas.
To adjust these antennas I need a meter that shows the signal strength.
This is not a problem with PCI or USB cards,
but is there a possibility to see this in realtime
when I use a linksys as a receiver?

BTW, as I do experiments with my notebook,
I need mobile network adapters with external
antenna connectors. I have an Ovislink USB
WLAN adapter, but this thing gives a receive signal that is 12dB weaker than a realtek PCI
card. As an Orinoco PC-Card costs more than a WRT54G, this is not a good option.

    And?
Does this firmware provide a realtime
    signal strength detection?
    If so, how?
