How to send only specific sites through OpenVPN

I have recently successfully set up a VPN connection through Tomato using OpenVPN. I now run into the problem that all of my traffic goes through the VPN. Is there a way to configure Tomato/OpenVPN such that I can (by default) send all traffic through my normal ISP gateway and then filter it so that only connections to specific sites (or IP addresses) are sent through the OpenVPN VPN connection?

I have read this thread: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?posts/207686/ but am unable to get it working as mentioned in one of the later posts in that thread. I have detailed some of my difficulties in followup posts in that thread.

Is something like this possible or easily set up using Tomato?

If I understand correctly you setup an OpenVPN client connected to a server you don't control, right?
Can you share the .ovpn file you're using? Can you include the client log connecting to the server so that we'll see what commands the server pushes

btw, that's not the default behavior of OpenVPN: http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/documentation/howto.html#redirect
