How to use a WRT54G as AP / Routing?

I have a WRT54G that I want to use as an AP because I already have 'n proxy server on my network

When I use the WRT as a DHCP server I can't set the Gateway and DNS that the clients should get, instead I get the following
    example:
    IP: 192.168.88.7
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.88.6
It gives the clients the IP of the WRT54G as the gateway
It should be 192.168.88.1 because that's my real gateway

The clients can't connect to the internet with this settings
If I conf. the Ip's manuel everything works fine because I use
    192.168.88.1 as the gateway

    Can someone help?

It's been a while since I've seen the official Linksys admin pages, but if you disable the internet connection and set the WRT's network settings to coincide with your network (IP, DNS, gateway) I'm pretty sure it'll dish out the correct settings to your clients.

You can also do this with the alternative firmware that's out there (DD-WRT, Sveasoft, etc)
