...i posted on broadband newsgroup that HyperWRT 1.0 failed
to upload to my WRT54G (version 1.0)...i never loaded the official
2.04.3 becuase of the heard signal strength probs. I tried loading
HyperWRT 1.0 right from 2.02.7 ...obviously, it sounds like 99% users
out there got this to work and trying to figure out why mine fails...

...before i try 1.1, i wanted to ask if it's known if there's a checksum
done...my guess is no, but not sure. Also, an observation when i do
a dump of both firmwares they are different sizes. The official 2.04.3
firmware pads up to 0x3233FF, but the HyperWRT 1.1 ends at 0x3223FF
...is this because of the code crossing a different boundry causing less
padding ? Actually, i expected HyperWRT 1.1 to be slightly larger than
2.04.3 instead of the other way around.

...just looking for clues why i get an upload failure~~~~

    ..thanks

The first time I compiled the linksys 2.04.3 source (without any changes to it) it was smaller then the official binairy.

Don't know why it's smaller, but I don't think we are missing anything...

I beleave there is a CRC32 checksum. The first 2 sec. after you press "upgrade firmware" the firmware will be fully loaded in ram and checked if the CRC32 sum is correct. If correct it flashes, if not it aborts.

I don't know why it fails with your WRT54G. Are you maybe using an encrypted file system?

..comparing to the original, the original pads more for whatever reason

    > I beleave there is a CRC32 checksum...if the CRC32 sum is correct. If

    ...i got a failed popup after a few minutes, doesn't give a reason...maybe
the checksum failed... maybe was a bad download..hmmmmm?

    > Are you maybe using an encrypted file system?
nope...all normal, uploaded from a Win 2000 box wired to router.
Have done a number of firmware upgrades with no probs until this one.

    ..anyway, thanks for your reply
