Come on Avenger.... My 1.4 has been up 16 days now and not a hitch. I am not used to having my router stay up without having to mess with it....

How about 1.4?? I need to play with my network :)

Seriously, word has it you are adding the ability to 'load' packages... Also you had mentioned Linksys was working on adding an SNMP agent. Is that code in the Linky base?? Are you adding this in??

    Thanks for all your work!!

I'm a bit busy at the moment but I hope to finish HyperWRT v1.4 in a week (or something like that )

    Changes will probably be :
    - Rewriting command shell to keep ping & traceroute
    - AutoRun is now divided into Startup & Firewall
    - Add-on package system, download packages from a internet (http or ftp server) at boottime and install them into RAM.

Add-on packages can for example be telnet, ssh, iptraf, vpn, snort, ...

Edit : I'm looking to fix speedbooster (for wrt54gs) too, but kind of stuck here :? SNMP is partly available in Linksys source, but not finished yet.

Any chance you'll figure out why Packet8 VoiP doesn't work with your firmware and fix before new release? I like your firmware but cannot for the life of me get my Packet8 to work with it. Wifi-box is the only firmware I've been able to use.

Is this the same problem official Linksys v2.04.4 has?
  5. Spyfy

    Spyfy Network Guru Member

Yes. I get the same problem with it. Got any idea what's causing it?

send an email to linksys or use their live-chat

Indeed, that's the best way. I don't have the time & resources to start fixing bugs linksys made.

Access Restriction - Aveneger Is God to Most People

Avenger before you release 1.4 try to take a look @ the Access Restrictions on a WRT54G(s). some people and I, are having problems getting Internet Access Policy 2 - 10 working. I'm Able to get policy 1 working fine. If that don't work. Just take out the policy group 1-10 and make one big policy page.

    thanx Golf

I see Linksys released the 2.09.1 source code for the WRT54GS.

We can use 2.09.1 as basis for gs units now. That should solve the speedbooster :)

    Just bought a new WRT54GS: firmware = v2.09.1, Jul. 3, 2004

And I cannot upgrade it to HyperWRT 1.3. Says the upgrade failed after about 1 second.
What to do? Want the power increase from HyperWRT (bought it just because of that - hope better than my previous D-Link DI-624 (DON't BUY THIS JUNK!). Wait for 1.4?

I hope to fix that in v1.4 that will be released in a few weeks.
Working on a new website too (in php) :)

But you just have to be a bit more patient as I have very little time to work on the firmware at the moment :(

Any chance you could post your settings here? All I get is a fast busy signal when I attempt to make a call. What firmware version do you have on your DTA as well.

did you download the correct firmware? GS firmware?

also what way are you trying to upgrade? via web interface or tfpt?

    OK- I'm blushing right now

I had a lot on my mind and was in a hurry (moving furniture while 'itching' to try out the new linksys router). Is about the only explanation I can think of why I wasn't paying enough attention to see that I was trying to upgrade the WRONG firmware. It works now - I was indeed trying to flash the GS with the G-firmware. Damn. Now I really look like a newby... 8O

Anyway, thanx Toxic! I'm a happy brandnew HyperWRT user now. 8)

Avenger20 think you talk about Hyperwrt 1.4 just a litlle.
how far you are in the makin?
  22. Avenger20

    Avenger20 Network Guru Member

    In a few days, I hope :)

    Changes :
    - Rewrote Command Shell to keep original Ping & Traceroute
    - Startup & Firewall replaces Autorun
    - Add-on support (still very basic)
    - Some visual changes

if you need help writing the <i guess the> add-on support where it gives support on the side of the routers web page.. let us know. some of us could create a new forum topic to work on the support thats on the side of the routers web page to describe what that setting is all about. that would atleast give you a break doing this kinda work. but only after you release the firmware so then we know what were looking @. and i think this would be a good idea if the command shell had a help guide knowing the commends and know how to use them or the power settings in the wireless advance setting know which antena to use for what and what antena power level is a good choise for what antena. you get my drift... many newbs could benifit from this when installing the frimware for the first time and it there first router.

you don't have all the time in the world, an i think its about time some of us newbs help you out in anyway.. all you do sometimes is copy and paste anyways. i notice that sveasoft makes a somewhat good firmware but on the side of the routers web page is just MORE.. nothing else to help anyone out unless you know what your doing an pay 20$ to goto the forum to get that support need. let us know if you think this is a good idea.. release HyperWRT1.4-basichelp and HyperWRT1.4-advanced help for beginners/newbs

also would anyone help out Avenger20 with this kinda support? post a comment to let Avenger20 know how many people could help out and give support.

I'll give my 2 min. a day or two out of a hole week to help out explaining router functions that are not listed in HyperWRTs firmware

Avenger20, planning to copy WDS out of sveasoft firmware? proble not eh

there i wasted 30 min typing this, when it could of gone to some good use.

sorry for the bad typing i'm allway up late doing this kinda stuff
    productivity is better then none

Indeed. I'm probably going to release the firmware first and then write the basic documentation later. Any help is always welcome, and I can even put it on my (soon new) website.

I'm not going to add any features like WDS, ... don't need them for myself and don't have the free time.

To create a sveasoft alike free firmware, it's probably better to create a fork with a 3+ development team. I hoped newbroadcom would do this, but I'm afraid it's kind of dead...
  25. Toxic

    Toxic Administrator Staff Member

new broadcom was a hoax really it just boasted it had the latest alchemy from sveasoft that was all. the intentions of making any new firmware was garbage tbh.

Thanks for sticking to your original plan not to "stray to much" from the basic Linksys firmware and add "alot of fluff". The majority using HyperWRT don't want or need this to be "like another third-party firmware".

  27. Avenger20

    Avenger20 Network Guru Member

    Indeed, that's true.

For HyperWRT v1.4 I will use 2.04.4 source for WRT54G and 2.09.1 source for WRT54GS. This will keep it as close to the official firmware as possible.

I made it all look a bit better (restored the original ping & traceroute back), placed command shell, startup & firewall and add-ons in management.

No other packages will get added, users can use 'add-ons' to easely load pre-made packages from internet (telnet, ssh, ...) and advanced users can compile their own firmware from source with packages they need.

For WDS you can use sveasoft firmware, I believe Alchemy even has WPA support over WDS.

Do you have any release-time yet? Next Week?
  29. Avenger20

    Avenger20 Network Guru Member

It's almost finished. Have to do some final tests, make a basic addon-package for example & some basic documentation.
HyperWRT v1.4 will probably be released before the end of the week or begin next week :)
I will write more documentation and add-on packages after the release then (when I have more free time  )

I am looking forward to it!!!!!

The only downside to upgrading is I will have to re-boot my router :D I have not had to re-boot since I installed hyperWRT 1.3 - Software stability and Linksys hardware sure is a good thing!!
