Try upgrading directly to dd-wrt.v23 SP1 beta mini/2006 - 0303. This version has been very stable in my WRT54G V2.

Before flashing to DD-WRT clean the NVRAM of your router by pressing the reset buttons for full 30 seconds.

After flashing to this firmware, do not touch the router for a few minutes to allow it to properly initialize.

A this point remember to clean one more time the NVRAM.

This is better explaining in here: Steps to flash through Web Interface

Note: After you flash to this version of DD-WRT 2.3 SP1 beta, when logging on to the router web page, you will have to write "root" for User name. The default password will continue to be "admin".

    Should be fine.

I've a WRT54G v2 and have gone from DD-WRT to HyperWRT and back.

Do as the flashing guide on the DD-WRT Wiki page tells you. No need to flash to mini or anything, just flash it.

Just do not overclock your WRT54G V2. This will brick your router
