A way to automaticaly reconnect if pppoe conection failes. If the link is failed, then the router should try to reconnect by itself and should not wait for me to push the Connect button on the status page.

sorry but it doesn't work very well.... I find the connection failed quite often and I have to click on the CONNECT buton again.
I know it shoul work, but it doesn't. Sometimes the link doesn't fail for a few hours and sometimes I wake in the morning, the connection is disconnected and the downloads are stoped.
I have to push connect manually.
And trust me, it's VERY annoying.

    1. Help documentation (when clicking inside of routers web interface) lists the power setting and a description

    2. Auto detection of SSID when using STA/WET

    3. Auto detection of channel once SSID is entered for STA/WET. This would be great if I want to change my wireless channel without needing to reconfigure my bridge devices. A warm boot would find the new channel.

    4. Status indicator to show "connected" when your STA/WET configuration is correct

    5. Option for DHCP configured router IP address (static only right now). Default to if no DHCP ack .

    multiple SSID

How about an option for Multiple SSIDs (it looks to be quite simple, based on Broadcom's driver, used in upcoming DD-WRT v 24).

    how about:

    1) Automatic scheduled restarts
    2) QoS --> limit download & upload bandwidth to individual clients (using ip/mac)

I really like this 3rd party firmware, I personally liked it better than DDWRT one, although all my friends use that one. For me (WRT54G-v4), this is the only one that works with BitComet. Thank-you!!

i know this might be asking to much or might be impossable. But i like to play alot of games online. bf2 cod2 cs aa0. I wonder if it possable to have the port be detected by the router and opened on the fly. I have a software that does that its called port magic. It use to work my old router but now it doesnt with my new 54gs v4. the software was so cool it would ask you if you would like to open these ports and it keeps all the ports that game is asking for at that time to stay open when u close the game it closes the ports is that possable to do. Unfortantely they dont make the software any more.

I have WPA2-PSK AES running on a WDS connection and it's working great. I am using Tufo13c on three WDS-linked WRT54G routers but Thibor and Tofu firmwares are supposed to share almost identical codebases nowadays. I setup WPA first and then switched over to WPA2 using the same key settings, and I'm using G-only mode. I wouldn't think any of this makes any difference but you never know...

I'd like to see in the next firmware revisions:
    1) "service name" setting in the web-interface's Basic Setup PPPoE settings... I have no problem to set service name on the command line (#nvram set ppp_service=<service_name> #nvram commit) but it'll be nice to have this in standart interface. There must be added just 4-5 lines below the "password" related section in the "\www\index_pppoe.asp":

        <TD width=156 bgColor=#e7e7e7 colSpan=3 height=25></TD>
        <TD width=8 background=image/UI_04.gif height=25></TD>
        <TD colSpan=3 height=25></TD>
        <TD width=101 height=25><script>Capture(share.srvname)</script></TD>
        <TD width=296 height=25><INPUT maxLength=63 size=24 name="ppp_service" value='<% nvram_get("ppp_srvname"); %>' onBlur=valid_name(this,"Service%20Name")></TD>
        <TD height=25></TD>
        <TD width=15 background=image/UI_05.gif height=25></TD></TR>
    2) Adding an option "Require secured passowrd" to the VPN and PPPoE sections on Basic Setup screen... plus adding MSCHAPv2 protocol... and adding an option "Require data encription" also;
    3) Adding a "PPPoE Passthrough" to "Security"/"VPN" section... that I must set now on the command line with an iptables command etc.

A way to configure IPP2P so that it puts P2P traffic into low priority or limit it to a static amount of bandwidth, it would be really useful (and I read at ipp2p.org that the software can do it ;) ).

I think it would suit fine in the QOS page since it’s more of a QOS feature than a firewall feature I think.

    Dear Thibor,

I have a 'NEW' Wish, important and an excellent feature and I think it's worth it to try and think that many would benefit from it.

I'm a developer (I guess it isn't that hard to develop in the thibor fw 15c).

Add the wish hereby as follows:
    - Extend the WOL with a Schedule option !

We live here in Europe, the WOL is working perfectly. But when you want to schedule a server, which isn't capable of delivering 24/7 hours of duty, you want to schedule the server to go into hybernate after office-hours (for example 18.00 hrs or later 22.00 hrs). But then, of course, you want to schedule then, when the Server has to receive a WOL-packet, early in the morning (for example 07.00 hours when Office-hours begin while I'm in my bed still :).

That excellent WOL-feature in your firmware, extended with a schedule-option (which IP, and/or which MAC-adress) providing the possibility which piece of hardware should be 'awakened' again, at a certain time, would be a very nice extra feature in your firmware.

furthermore, it's more secure. If someone is forgetting that, well...

therefore a good schedule-WOL option would be much appreciated

    Is that possible ? (e-mail option: wwchamp_dirty04@hotmail.com)

(p.s. excuse my possibly terrible English)
  46. Sooung

    Sooung LI Guru Member

Scheduled WOL would be nice but every computer I have that supports WOL also has an “Alarm†feature in the BIOS/CMOS setup that allows the computer to boot up and shut down at specified times.
  47. Toxic

    Toxic Administrator Staff Member

Thibor has already said this is a very low priority. hardly anyone uses this on a daily basis (some do) but i bet 99% dont.

he has more important things to do at the moment.
  48. Thibor

Thibor Super Moderator Staff Member Member

okay then my friend, you are a developer and as you said yourself; it isn't that hard. do the work yourself and i will add it to the codebase and then release it for all the people that want it so badly.
  49. Dirty04

    Dirty04 Network Guru Member

    "my friend ??" Hm...

I'm a developer in another field than routers. But I thought in conjunction with the Time/date-synchronisation it has on board, that a calendar-function would maybe not difficult to implement it and let it fire an event.

fireing the WOL-event to a certain Mac-adress, wich wakes up machines at a certain time.

But suit yourself, don't do it. No problem.
  50. tiagoespinha

    tiagoespinha Network Guru Member

Geez guys, cut the irony and agression, I've just been looking to Thibor's release code myself and it is in fact easy to understand for those that are at ease with C/C++.

I am looking into developing a feature there, to add a new DDNS service that suits my needs, IF I have the time and the will, I'll look into that WOL schedule thing.

Should only be a matter of parsing an input from the web end and modify the crontab based on that. But, also as Thibor said, this is so much easier made by hand directly into the crontab.
  51. Thibor

Thibor Super Moderator Staff Member Member

i wholeheartedly apologise if my calling you "my friend" , which you obviously aren't, judging by the response, as opposed to any other title(sir maybe?) may have caused offense. the truth is, that you saw fit to describe yourself as a developer and also to state that it isn't difficult to do. i am currently busy, and have already stated that since i do not use the vast majority of features implemented, including WOL; coupled with the fact that i am as i said before, busy. i really don't see what the issue would be for you as a developer, to add this for the benefit of yourself and others that would wish to use it. but if not, as i have previously stated, once again i reiterate; it is a low priority for me, but i will get to it as and when i can, if no-one else does.
  52. Dirty04

    Dirty04 Network Guru Member

No problem Thibor. But the sentence starting with "My friend"...if u are so good, do it yourself .. sounded to me a bit eh... 'no respect'.

It was just a wish, which I tried to argumented as best as I could and even excused for the possible english I used. And as for paper or e-mail, it sounds often different than meant in real life.
So, take it easy and have alot of respect. And this was a wishlist, so it was a 'wish' of mine. nothing more...

thanx tiagoespinha that you want to look into it in future. It has no deadlines, so no stress..

Can't think of any more, thibor 15c is rather complete, but I will never put a wish on this forum again.

    Just to inform you all.

Wed Nov 03, 2004 this thread was started by Averger20 HyperWRT author (not Thibor)

Perhaps a new Thibor thread should be started by you mate, with what your intentions are for the future so no offense is taken by all.

    just my 2 cents worth...
  54. Dirty04

    Dirty04 Network Guru Member

    Ok, yes that's true. It's a hyperwrt-firmware wishlist. You're right.

Maybe it can be made possible to implement it, maybe it's hard. I cannot judge that. I don't know the code. Make it possible to "wish" things, instead of immediate argueing.

I rest my case.. and no future plans.
  55. Thibor

Thibor Super Moderator Staff Member Member

Dirty04, your wishes and input are as important as everybody else's. as you yourself said, 15c is about as complete as it can get, and i'm not going to just keep adding features and risk destabilising it. this is all irrelevant, as i am not actively developing on the GS/G right now, i'm busy elsewhere. if i can get to it, i'll add it. if i had some help, i'd get to it sooner, but as i don't, i won't. i don't ignore the wishes, check the feature list against the wishlist for proof.

Automatic relaying from a specific MAC Address to WOL a PC

Well, following on from my earlier post about WOL, and I know what Thibor said, but in case he gets run over by a bus (which I do not for moment wish for) and someone else dives into the wishlist, here's my wish.

A feature whereby the router detects a broadcast signal from another machine and then sends the corresponding wol signal to the required machine via GUI interface

Some digging around revealed these threads may be useful, but I feel rather comfortable with a GUI. I DID type stuff into startup scripts before the WDS functions went GUI (which I LOVE), but I'm not keen on it.

In March I posted a request to have hotplug support for the print server. The fireware revision was 14 at the time, I believe. (i.e. have the print server auto-detect if a printer is turned on and off. I was having a problem where as soon as I turned the printer off, the print server quit working, even after I turned the printer back on, etc.)

I have recently seen some posts seeing they were using the print server happily, so has anything been done in the 15 series of the firmware? I can't find any mentioning in the change logs. If so, I won't hesitate to upgrade my firmware in a heartbeat. :)

    Thanks a lot.

no, i haven't done anything with the print server since then.
i haven't had time, and as you stated yourself, people are happily using it.

    I see.

I have confirmed the print server still behaves the old way of requiring the printer to be on all the time. Once the printer is off, to get the print server working again, one must turn the printer on and reboot the router. Sigh...

to be honest, i don't see how it would behave any differently since i stated that i hadn't changed it's functionality since it was first installed. if your problem is happening when you turn the printer off, the simple answer is to "don't turn it off then".

    EasyDNS DDNS Option

Thanks for all the great work Thibor.

Could you please add EasyDNS DDNS back into the firmware for the GS? It was in 14 but went awol in 15.

    Thanks again.

maybe, depending on the amount of people that would like it's return. but no promises; and i'm certainly not going to do it on the request of a single person. sorry.

Any particular reason it was removed other than lack of interest?

See, I'm caught between 14 and 15. 14 has DDNS and 15 fixed the streaming issues I have with 14.

Logging of IPs/URLs passed thru (Proxy server??) so I can track my kids used the computer where/when they went.

Thanks. I'm currently still using 2.1b1 + Thibor 14 and IPTABLES firewall script to block certain sites.

Any chance iPKG can be added? This would be great for the SL54 and it's external storage capabilities.

It would be nice if one could have a "download" page that would allow a web-interface so that files can be downloaded from the external harddrive. In certain settings, I'm unable to access FTP due to whatever network restriction may be in place, and a simple http download would be divine.

Any thoughts on using the IP Masquerade and DNS Cache on the Linksys routers.

I have used these functions on wired routers that I have built and the nice part with the masq function is that it will hide the internal IP addresses of your network from a curious ISP that might want to charge more for addtional computers on the line.

Also I have noticed that web pages load faster on the computers behind the router with locally caching the DNS info instead of having the DNS entries on each computer behind the router.

More info on the IP Masquerade function can be found here:

And more info on DNScache can be found here:

    WebUI for managing VLANs

I think I saw this when I tried DD-WRT and I would appreciate the functionality in Thibor's firmware if possible. I must confess that I've grown to enjoy the WebUI and being able to create and modify VLANs through the WebUI would just dandy!
