I, Cringely; and major help; looking for direction

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by jabbathehutty, May 5, 2005.

  1. I am a regular reader of I, Cringely a popular PBS blog on technology, a few weeks ago i read an article on using WRT54G to get free internet with the use of the Sveasoft firmwire. Since i have a WRT54G i want to modify this so i can play around and to see how i would be able to get free internet.

I am looking for direction on how i can accomplish this, links would be great? and etc. I would like to learn about this because this is pretty interesting...

Also, I am not interested in stealing internet, i just think this whole process is pretty interesting. I have business cable service package for my home, so this is in no way stealing internet. Its just about the learning.

You realize that doing this is illegal, right? It's not free internet, it's stolen internet.

Anyway, the information you need is on his site anyway. I personally don't feel like helping other people whose motives I am unsure of hack into and use the networks of others.
  3. You should visit http://www.wrt54g.de and ask the Sveasoft developers for help. They are pritty active in the forums there. and we charge a packet for our help.

Cringley outlines everything you need in the article. Except how to set up client mode and the vicomsoft gateway.
Heres a link to the a setup guide for client mode,

As to the Vicomsoft gateway, well its very expensive for just one person,
as in its almost $300. Though it is on p2p sites. All the setup info is also on
    vicomsofts site.

    Thats all you need.
