If I click on the 'use wan port as lan port' can the router/WAP have Local IP traffic data?

I have a WRT54GL as an access port, but it's in a remote location. It would be nice to see if it's local IP traffic or even it's general bandwidth usage. Is that possible if I connect to the WAN port and click 'use as lan port'?

Or does it lose all WAN functionality and become a dumb LAN port?

Use as lan port does as it sounds, the WAN port is no longer treated as separate or "special" by the routers switching/routing policy. This allows the port to not be wasted if the router is not being implemented as a gateway. Setting this option will cause the loss of all connectivity to the internet ( or link to whatever external network ) if currently being used as a gateway.

    A semi follow up question.

If I leave the Wan port as is, leave 'assign DHCP' on, but use the router as a wireless access point using only the LAN ports to daisy chain router, is there any conflict or issue?
