    but im sooo very confused.
    Background:
I have had probs with the wireless connection on my WAG54G. Finaly got so annoyed i googled it and found i wasnt the only one. It was when i was reading a post on this forum about it that I realised it looks like a firmware upgrade was needed.

Now. I didnt realise there are a V1 and V2 of the WAG45G. This is the first hurdle. What is the obviouse surface differences as I cant seem to find a list or anything telling me.
Second part. I like in the UK and thought that my firmware would be the EU one. But the starting Firmware says it is 1.0.1.6 Feb 2004.

Maybe i have been reading too much about it but I am completely stumped as to what i have and what firmware to get.
I know u probably see this kind of post every few weeks and im sorry.

To find out which one you have point your browser at the router config page, usually http://192.168.1.1 in the top right hand corner it will say either WAG54G or WAG54G V.2. If it has the V.2 bit then it's a version 2, if it doesn't it's either a version 1 or version 1.2, these use the same firmware so it doesn't matter which it is ;) Post back which you have and then we can advise you on the correct firmware to use.

If you happen to have 1.01.06, I would suggest you stay with that version because that seems to be "the" most stable. My WAG came with the exact same firmware and I never had any problems, ever!

Once you find the correct version and still want to move up to a different version, make sure you can find your current firmware first or you may end up like a lot of other users (running back and forth trying to find a firmware version stable enough to get basic use out of your router) :)

Are you using the latest drivers for your wireless network card(s)?

Im using the drivers that came with the WPC54G pcmcia card. When i check the Linksys page it has ones that are older than the ones that came with it.
Ill keep looking for a newer set tho

Edit: My router is a v1.2 and the mifi card is a v2. will this be whats causing it?

    Shouldn't be.

Have you tried changing the channel used for the wireless network on the router?

yup been mucki about with it all night.
after a proper search on here it seems to be a common prob with my firmware. so i think that unless there is summit else i have missed it could be time to flash it.

You know, you're dropped connection might be due to your wireless card. I had drop outs like this initially and blamed my router till I looked closer at the card. Try this link for replacement drivers for your card:

    firmware for WAG54G

    HI there,
I had pretty much a very similar experience to what you describe. I have spent several nights mucking about.......

I have version 1 of WAG54G which by and large is not very stable (I am told) Having said that the firmware which you can find on the downloads page of this website (which is version 1.03.0_beta4) seems reasonably good. It solved most of my problems, however the connection still drops very occasionally.

All the best! Throw away linksys and buy netgear if all else fails!

ok well after some faffin about today i have updated both my firmware to the 1.03 beta posted by docashim adn i went and got new drivers for the wifi card. it still seems to hop about with the speed of transfer, with 80%+ signal and quality its sitting at 27mb or slower, but its connecting properly now.
Thanks for all the help with this guys. its very much appreciated
