hey guys. im a lil new to the scene. i got my WRT54G up an runnin with the latest alchemy firmware. i dont have my own internet connection , so i borrow from my neighbor. problem is, theres another ap , with a different ssid and channel somewhere nearby. (i live in appartments). i wouldnt mind my router randomly connecting to another ap, except that it interrupts my downloads on irc an stuff. what can i do to get my router to stop connecting to other networks?
note: both networks are unsecure, both using different ssids, and both using different channels. one is a WRT54G (my neighbor) , the other is a wr850g(the other neighbor)

I think it's a bug or feature in recent Sveasoft firmware, the client jumps to the strongest signal.

    You could try another firmware...

ok. i was thinking about hyperwrt. but when i was looking at the gui, it didnt have the lovely option sveasoft has: the client mode option. im sure hyperwrt can be used as a client, but can i do it wiouth linux?

The Linksys wireless driver "wanders" to the AP with the strongest signal regardless of the SSID setting. We added code to force the client mode units to the proper SSID in our wland daemon. This will be patched in the final Alchemy release and the Talisman firmware.

Maybe they just forgot to patch it to the public Alchemy release.

Maybe there old Sveasoft Satori firmware is enough for you.

Satori is pretty good. Nothing wrong with using that. I don't know if this is a problem in DD-WRT either, which is based off Alchemy but with added features.
