    Hi

Just got a new V2.2 WRT54G and it has this sticker on it that says "Run CD FIrst".

So i run the CD setup and the first thing it dose is check for a high speed internet connection. I don't have that installed yet, the installer is coming in a few weeks. I wanted to get my home network setup and and set the DHCP address and other network setting before the cable modem is put in.

What is this run CD first setup going to do for me anyways. Can't i just connect to the router either wireless ot wired and login and config it my self. I can always reset it if i need to. What is with this run the CD first crap.

Any help, i just don't want to mess this up. I have set my old BR41 router and understand the setting for the most part when i had DSL at my old house. The dam manual dose not even have a manual install section so they want everyone to use the wizzard setup. What a crock.

The wizard is just an application that makes several simple configuration changes for you (change admin password, clone your PC's MAC address, etc). There is nothing it does that you cannot do manually by loading http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser.

Linksys must have updated their startup guide with the newer models coz my WRT54G comes with a guide that includes a section on how to access the firmware manually.

I have a revision 2 WRT54G and there was no printed documentation. The user guide is on the CD in PDF form, though.
