internet ip through dhcp

    my isp (verizon, california, us) uses dhcp to get ip from internet; when using hyperwrt firmware or even the router/dsl device shipped with the service from westell; i am unable to get an ip; when using dd-wrt it does get the ip; i would like to know if anyone knows what is the difference in the code that allows it to get the ip with dd-wrt;

    i am using a standard westell dsl modem but also have the combo unit from westell as well;

    there is probably something off with the connection from the isp and they are looking into it; but in the meantime i was trying to set up the hyperwrt until the dd-wrt is more stabilized and was wondering what the difference was and perhaps i could somehow get the ip pulled using the hyperwrt (which i assume as to that is the stock linksys method); thanx for any info
