iPod Touch Signal Loss

I previously had a WRT54G V2.0 providing wireless coverage and my iPod Touch worked fine everywhere in the house (using Linksys 7db gain antennas). I picked up a WRT54GL and installed Tomato 1.2.3. At default power settings, the iPod Touch loses connection as I move away from the GL router (moving up to 2nd floor is especially bad). Reading the forums suggests that WRT54G's use 18mw of transmit power while the GL seems to be defaulted to 42mw with Tomato. I'm guessing the problem lies with the iPod Touch having less than beefy wifi transmit/receive. Putting the 7db gain antennas on the GL did not seem to help the problem.

I'm mystified why the lower power WRT54G is able to provide much better coverage over the house than the WRT54GL. Any ideas/suggestions. I'm running plan B right now which is Tomato on the GL for QOS and relegating the WRT54G to WiFi only duty. It would be nice to get back to one router though.

    Thanks, Rich
