I'm currently using HyperWRT G Thibor15c. If I make the Web Admin accessible to the WAN over HTTPS is it safe? This assumes I have a strong password and changed the default username. Would my router be vulnerable to say a brute force attack? Is there a way to limit the number of incorrect password retries?

Yes its safe and anything is vulnerable to a brute force attack. However if you check the logs often or run a syslog server and look at it regularly you should have no worries. I think the maximum password length is currently 15 characters so you cant make the greatest password but its enough that it would take a good while to crack. What i would suggest if its possible with your router change to an obscure port number and you should be good. As far as username goes i dont believe you can change it and someone should beable to help you with a script to limit the number of incorrect responses.
