Is it dead? (v2 bricked)

    I have a v2 WRT54G which I bricked during a firmware upload. At first, I would get only the blinking power led with no pings, but the device basically acted as a hub or switch.

    After shorting pins 15/16 via the antenna method, I was able to ping and upload firmwares under 3MB. No matter which firmware or which method (TFTP or Auto-upgrade) I use, it simply does not do anything. The DMZ light comes on and then goes off about every 20 seconds or so. The device will not "auto-reset" when the firmware is done. I've waited up to 30 minutes for the device to reboot and it never does.

    One thing to note is that when I upgrade the firmware, the reset button no longer works. Yet, if I unplug the power, then plug it back in, it will work just fine.

    I get the sense this thing is not totally dead. Would a JTAG adapter fix this? I don't have a soldering iron, and don't have much experience with them anyway. Does anyone know a place that sells them for $10 or less?

    Are there other pins I could short that might help this?
