I wonder how that would occur since I don't do much on it.

    Probably banned.

    Ways to get banned.

    1. Make ANY negative comment about ANYTHING they are planning in their forums.
    2. Register in a forum that promotes or supports forks of their firmware.
    3. Post the words GPL in their forum (this also appears to be a way to get banned in this forum, NOTE THAT I have not posted any OPINION on the GPL issue other than it is a hot topic with them.)

When I got banned it was shortly after I registered, they where planning on putting a password in to prevent non members from running the firmware.. I commented that it was a waste of development time and that I was starting to regret paying for my subscription.

Within hours my paypal account was refunded and an email titled "No regrets was sent."

All in all they gave me a refund so I am not really bitter.. I just think they have thin skin and are a ban happy.

I still can not access their site from my home IP, but can from any other computer.. So the who banning IP thing is another example of extreme measures they take to protect something that can't really be protected.

to get around this all you need to do is just go to the wrts setup apge enable mac adress clone oor change the current mac adress reboot oruter reboot cable modem

say hi to you shiny new ip!

Look's like sveasoft lost a paying member. I haven't done any of the things mentioned, so I don't know why I would be banned.

If the ban is based on IP address it would seem that when the ISP changes my IP address (I think it changes about every 2 weeks) then the ban would go away...or vice-versa, by chance I get an IP address that is banned!?

Changing the mac address, then rebooting the router and modem, didn't work. I changed it and then couldn't access the internet. When I checked the router status no IP address had been assigned.

I just want to clarify real quick - we don't like GPL discussion because its not the point of this site - So far, all of the firmware projects that we know of and that we post info on, support and fully comply with the GPL.

If someone has an issue with how the GPL works or how someone implements it, it needs to be taken to the GPL people, not us, we have no control over it nor do any of our users.

In short, we've just found that GPL discussion is just pointless since it doesn't do anything but piss people off. Some people don't like the way one group implements it, or the way another reads it, and it just draws lines. Besides, we're a networking support site, not a open source debate room ;-).

We won't ban you if you discuss GPL, its just that its been beaten to death - EVERYONE complies so far per the Free Software Foundation- is not on topic for the forums, just as looking for firmware help on a car site is silly, and we'll politely ask you to leave the topic alone.

My guess is that I got banned because I downloaded the customized CFE for recovering a dead WRT54G(s) using JTAG for each of my seven units. I figured it might be good to have it in-hand when I mess a unit up (which I've done twice already). With that number of downloads they probably presumed that someone was abusing the membership by downloading for others.

So, if you are thinking of using the sveasoft JTAG facility to get a brain-dead WRT54G(s) best not download the CFE for more than the unit at hand.

You might want to re-think that. I highly doubt you were banned for downloading CFE files. As a sveasoft member you can download until your hard drive is full. Its part of the membership, unristricted access to all available downloads. Just ask the question to support@sveasoft.com and I am sure you will get a response eventually.

I'm guessing you meant this link. CFE downloads. The files are not on the forum.

Wow jagboy, finally something your not familiar with(kidding). Not that I know much more but it is the bootloader file for the hardware. When I say hardware I mean it is specific to the version of the router you have. It is used, or can be, to recovery a bricked router using the JTAG interface. hairydairymaid (sveasoft dev member) maid a backup and recovery util to create or load CFE files. You can pull the entire Flash chip or parts depending on your need/desire. Maybe someone else can explain it more you both of us as I have been trying to understand it more for a while.

Steps to pull the CFE without the util

Here are the steps from start to finish:

    1) Open router ie. http://192.168.1.1 and log in as normal.
    2) Go to administration page, management tab, press command shell button.
    3) In this box type the following:
dd if=/dev/mtd/0 of=/tmp/cfe.bin (cut and paste to make sure you get it right) After a few seconds it should return the following:
    512+0 records in
    512+0 records out
    4) Close Shell window
    5) Still under administration page, management tab, press
    telnet daemon button, start telnet
    6) Open dos command prompt and login in to router, type:
telnet 192.168.1.1 (will not prompt you for password)
    7) type: cd /tmp
type: mv cfe.bin cfe.jpg -this is important as per lonewolf
    9) type: killall httpd
    10) type: httpd (now you can close the dos window)
    11) using firefox browser (ie doesn't seem to work for this)
type: http://192.168.1.1/cfe.jpg (will prompt you for
login to router - proceed as normal) Will respond with the
    image cannot be displayed...
    12) From the FILE menu, select Save Page As, save to a
    location of your choice
    13) Unplug / powercycle the router to delete the file and
    restore the web interface
    14) Open router again and go to administration page,
management tab, Telnet Daemon, and choose stop telnet.
    15) FINISHED and you have a backup of your CFE. Can be
renamed to CFE.BIN for use in flashing.

Change the MAC address in the CFE
    'insmod writemac flag=set_mac string=00:11:22:33:44:55'

    Cheers :)

    :moose:

thanks for explaing it to me.

do you know if it is possible for you to do this via ethenet cable instead of jtag.

i have a bricked wrt. and i get ping relys and i upload firmware but the led keeps flashing.

again thanks for the help :D

Nope will not and can not work without using the JTAG interface and cable. I wish it was possible for you as I hate to know there is a WRT out there lifeless (attempt at humor I'm not that obsessed yet). Wolf is selling the required pieces if your desperate enough. http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1938. I bought them and am happy with them. I does seem strange that your router still accepts pings but no firmware. Try using the linksys tftp util and vendor firmware to flash it on. I was able to get my wrt54gs 1.1 to come back using this method.
