is the wrt54G limiting thruput per connection?

I just hooked a WRT54G for a friend to charter cable which claims 3meg download throughput. In using the speed test at speakeasy.net, I can only get 1meg down per connection although I can get the 1meg with 2 computers doing the test at the same time - each saying they are gettin 1meg. I tried different locations and different times of day. I also tried the hardwired ethernet connection, same result.

Or is it that charter could be throttling us at 1/3 max per socket connection?

On my own setup thru comcast, with the same router, same setup, I get the full 4megs they advertise so I'm stumped.

You could try to emulate the setup with a "fast WAN"; i.e. hook a computer on a separate subnet to the router's WAN port, still do the NAT and whatever else the router is doing in the internet setup, and see if you still get throttled.

Connect directly to the cable modem and test it again to know for sure if its the internet connection or the router. These tests arent perfect, depending on load where the servers are located can affect your results. But if your getting the same speed all the time im guessing that is not an issue.
