is there a WRT54G V3 Firmware to assign IP's based on MAC?

    Hello all,

is there a firmware that would allow me to assign network IP's based on each device MAC? That way port forwarding isn't much of a hassle when hte IP of my laptop changes.

I don't wanna set a static IP on Windows because I move my laptop a lot between networks.

Or maybe, if there is a way to tell my router not to block certain ports for all IPs?

    Help is appreciated.

    Thank you,

If you are on Windows XP, you can turn the DHCP Server off on the WRT. After doing so, go into Windows, open your network connections, and right click on your wireless. Choose TCP/IP, select properties, and a new window should come up.

Set your 'Alternate Configuration' to be an address/gateway/dns/etc. on your network. Now, when your PC can't find a network, it will use these settings instead of the standard 169.254.x.x address it used to.

This should allow you to use the same address all the time.
