Is WRT54GS V3 the S29 chip?

I bought a ZTE(Chinese brand) H618B router. The vender said that even FW updating fails, it can always be recovered because the chip is S29. So I want to know, is it true?

And what about WRT54GS V3? Is it still S29? Becuase once I failed to updating FW. I used tftp to flash the original FW firstly, then flash DD, then flash TT. It recovered in the end.

If you can recover via tftp then you are just communicating with the bootloader CFE, and the chips don't matter. If you have to use JTAG it is easiest if the flash chip is correctly identified. Spansion S29 is a series of flash chips, there were some in circulation that had 'errata', ie hardware bugs that need kernel patches to work around since they do not identify correctly when probed - they could be a problem for Tomato or other 3rd party firmwares. The wrt54gsv3 is ancient - lookup a wiki for the actual chips used in that rev!
