I think that they should release their firmware as open source on these routers so that there could be some developement on them, I know that there are a lot of these around and there are a lot of improvements that could be done with them. I know I have two of them. So if anyone over at linksys is reading this, please open up the firmware for these routers. I also wonder how many people will be choosing linksys over the competitors just because of this site. I know that I will not buy any other brand, all my linksys produts that I have worked with have treated me well. And now with all of the firmware options, I am in the mood to buy a WRT54GS. Maybe if we all email them they would do it. hmmmm. Just my $00.02

I doubt very much they will release the source for any other firmware unless it is under GPL (linux based) of which the BESFRxx are not afaik.

I contacted linksys, and they said that they do not know if they are going to release the firmware as open source. They have no word from management as to if they are going to release the older firmware. But they did say to keep checking back on the website. I would love it also if they would add ddns to the firmware for version one and two.

    Don't forget the BEFSRU31

which has a USB port. Given source, it might be possible to do quite useful things with this. Like attaching a flash disk and running a webserver.

Perhaps this forum should be called BEFSRU31, BEFSR41, BEFSR81, BEFSR11?
