It's been a fun run.... My buffalo is back from the dead

My WHR-HP-G54 died a couple days ago. Just lost all connections, wired and wireless. I changed a setting, rebooted and walked away. Came back and what greeted me was something about ERROR READING MTS something or another. Clicked the continue button and lost everything. So I ran to Best Buy and all they had were D-Links and Linksys. I know, I could have ordered online but we needed to get the home network back up and running ASAP, couldn't wait for a 2 - 5 day waiting period for delivery. I had two Linksys routers and a wireless card die on me in the past and I still have a third now so I bought a D-Link DIR-628. It's a nice router, my wifes laptop get an excellent signal all over our property and anywhere inside the home. Only drawback is it will not accept any 3rd party firmware. I am having withdrawals pretty bad not being able to set up this D-Link firmware like I did Tomato. I will get back into it when Buffalo gets back on the market in the states.

Your router is bricked. Your router is the second one beside mine had the same error and died. Lucky for me I was able to debrick it (WRT54G ver. 3). So maybe you should look into way to debrick your router. Search around someone might know how to debrick the buffalo router. Good luck.

I don't think him changing a setting bricked his router, I've only ever heard of bricking a router during a firmware update.

When you save settings there will be flash write of nvram variables. If the flash is failing the device is dead, but if there is definitely a chance that it is just the config corrupted - electrical interference during write - time to learn about JTAG?

Yea, I still have it and plan to learn the JTAG thing probably this winter. But I will be back into 3rd party firmware. Just ordered a ASUS WL-500gP V2 from Newegg.com, should arrive in a couple days. Then I am returning the D-Link back to Best Buy

The WHR-HP-G54 is breathing new air. I was bored and did the 12th pin thing, I figured what did I have to lose. The router gave me two good years. Well it came back to life and flashed v1.21 back on to it. I am still going to get the ASUS, use it as the main and the WRT54Gv3 and Buffalo will be WDS clients.
