Known RV0xx limitations.

I'm trying to create a summary of known limitations to the RV0xx routers abilities. I intend to update the list with confirmed issues and differences.

    RV042 v1 (1.3.12.19)
    - traffic incoming through VPN tunnel is not processed by firewall
    - it is not possible to do protocol binding on adresses from Multiple Networks ranges.
    - the Network Service Detection feature blocks ability to ping the specified adresses from LAN.
    - MAC cloning on WAN2 disables DHCP client on this port. (possible workaraund with direct editing Open RG config files)
    - no VLAN
    - no VPN Tunel Backup feature
    - no DHCP Relay ability
    - DHCP server collects trash in it's database causing it to work incorrectly in some point (it is possible to remove unwanted DHCP entries with Open RG CLI).
    - no DNS Local Database

    RV082 v1 (2.0.2.01)
    - traffic incoming through VPN tunnel is not processed by firewall
    - it is not possible to do protocol binding on adresses from Multiple Networks ranges.
    - the Network Service Detection feature blocks ability to ping the specified adresses from LAN.
    - VPN Tunel Backup does not allow IPs resolved by DNS
    - DHCP server collects trash in it's database causing it to work incorrectly in some point (it is possible to remove unwanted DHCP entries with Open RG CLI).
    - when acting as DNS server router slows down when Internet DNS servers it is using are not working correctly.
    - the subnet mask checking of the DMZ settings works with first three values, only. So, it is not possible to use 255.255.255.128 and smaller subnets with the same first three values as the LAN subnet.
    - when splitting a 255.255.255.0 subnet between LAN and WAN using 255.255.255.128 subnets, the default route is missing from the routing table.

    RV016 v1 (3.0.2.01)
    - traffic incoming through VPN tunnel is not processed by firewall
    - no VPN Tunel Backup feature
    - no DHCP Relay ability
    - no DNS Local Database
    - no Smart Link Backup function (there is IP Group (By Users) instead)
    - VLAN and MAC clone can not be used at the same time
    - system log "VPN log" filter does not work correctly. Many entries are duplicated.

    RV042 v3 (4.2.2.08)
    - turning off HTTPS causes problems with accessing router WEB interface
    - when working in DMZ mode the protocol binding rules for dual WAN mode can still be effective. It is a wise idea to delete all of them before turning the DMZ mode on.
    - at some cases G2G VPN is not working as it should to.
I did not perform other tests, as I do not need a device with problematic VPN.

    RV082 v3
The firmware seems to be the same as RV042 v3

    RV042G
I have no informations on it's performance. But the firmware seems to be the same as other v3 devices.

    Various observations and hints:
RV082 v2 Tunnel Backup feature requires setting the DPD timeout. If on both sides the DPD is the same it can cause the tunnel to spontanicaly disconnect and reconnect in loop. So, the DPD timeout values should be significantly different on both ends.

Darn. It appears it is not possible to edit the post after 30 minutes. So my plan went down in flames.

Anyway, the RV042 v1 does not have local DNS database feature.

Well the forum was updated. It is possible to edit own posts, again. I added the new informations to the first post including DHCP and DNS related observations.

A new firmware 4.2.3.03 was released for RV0xx v3 and RV0xxG series. There are a lot of fixes related to VPN connection problems. It seems to be a good idea to retest them.
