    Hello to all.
    I have the WRT54GL v1.1 with Tomato 1.25 firmware.
Connection to Internet is L2TP protocol. Cable modem Thomson & Motorola (from today).

    The problem:
If router got WAN lease time 1 hour, it will disconnect from the ISP with end of lease time. After that it can't get another IP address from ISP without router restarting. Sometime I got 1 hour of lease time, sometime 7 days without any changes on my side.

I spoke with cable line provider and got the new cable modem today. But router still disconnecting from the Internet. If I dial to Internet without router, all things works well.

A few month ago I changed my old D-Link DI-824VUP to WRT54GL. The old router was stable and never was disconnected this way.

    Can someone help me please?

I have a few screenshots of my problem.

    P.S.
    Sorry for my English.
    P.P.S.
Added picture with good lease time ( 7 days )

I had a quite similar problem. My connection is using DHCP with 2hrs lease, the router will always disconnect after 2 hrs and reconnect again, this don't happen with Asus offical firmware, nor DD-WRT and OpenWRT, which support to renew the DHCP lease.

    I am using 1.25ND on WL500GPv2

I can't understand why router drop the connection?
End of lease time is not mandatory for dropping line by DHCP client.

I know nothing about L2TP, but see here for a similar problem, a silent RENEW fails, and a full DISCOVER restarts the WAN.

You could see if the dd-wrt firewall commands work for you, or provide further diagnostic info to help solve the problem!

Thank you a lot, mstombs, I'll try this way.

I thought it not my only little trouble, but firmware bug. If author will so kind to fix this issue in one of the future versions, I'll be happy. I post it here because saw this forum like one of the "official" Tomato support places. Because my old DI-824VUP+ don't have any problem with L2TP (and PPTP) in this case, I think it is the Tomato "problem".

I wish say more. I think to add to wishlist the next thing:
To add ability to set VPN servers for L2TP & PPTP servers by names, not by IP addresses only. The ISP have pool of servers with load balansing for users, but user must use one only. Here is the another trouble.

I had the same problem, weird as it is when I input static DNS ip the RENEW takes place as it should.

    give it a try!

My router can't connect with fixed DNS servers at all.
On 1-st step it must get DNS of cable provider (HOT in our case). With the static DNS of internet provider (BBL in my case) router can't get the right addresses for second stage of connection.
