LAN Clients over WDS Bridge

I have 2 WRT54G(v2.2 &v4) set up with WDS works great form my wireless clients. However I have a Tivo, xBox, and a Computer I would like to have wired to the second router, and this doesn't seem to work. The problems are:

    1) The Client router doesn't have DHCP set up so I don't get an IP (No biggie I can set it static)

    2) I can't connect to anything hooked in to the Primary router, including wireless clients, and the internet.

So is there a setting I am missing somewhere? What could cause this? I can connect to either router via wireless and get to any piece of equipment on the network.

I tried searching and the WIKI/Help but didn't find anything.

    Thanks
    Will

Are you sure your WiFi clients are in fact working with the 2nd unit, and not the 1st one?

The reason I ask is, because if you have the "LAN" type WDS setup correctly, then it is simply bridging the networks together. The WLAN and LAN on the 2nd unit are one and the same network and should not behave differently. On one big happy bridged network you cannot have more than one DHCP server so all secondary devices must have it disabled. All clients whether LAN or WLAN on the bridged network should be able to see main DHCP server.

PTP WDS is a different animal.

The status screens on both routers show this:
    WDS Signal: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX -77 -100 23

and prior to the WDS setup I barely could get a connection in my living room, now it is flawless.

    Thanks

If you have the routers set up as wds with each other, you're not supposed to connect to them wirelessly. They're only supposed to act as a wireless bridge between two wired networks. If it is setup right, and you have a dhcp server on either wired network, then you xbox, etc. , should get an ip address from either side of the network. If you also want wireless clients connected, you need a third wireless router to act as an access point for them.

I am a little confused by this, here is my understanding

WDS puts both routers on the same network, the second router acts as a bridge to the 1st router. Both router are supposed to allow both wireless and wired connection to comunicate between the two routers.

Why would I need a 3rd wireless router in able to have a wireless network? Is my understanding wrong?

Connecting other wireless clients to the wds link kills the speed. Much better to put a third wireless router as an access point on one side of the wds link.

Since my wds link isn't working correctly at this time I see speed being a problem. Once I have a working Link then I will start to worry about performance.

    Thanks

    Do both routers show this?

If so , what are the lan and wan ip addresses of both routers?

It would be interesting to see what settings you have used, or what guide you followed for setting this all up. Perhaps you have a simple configuration error.

    Figured it out-- Thanks

The problem was a config error which is what i suspected, once I enabled Loopback everything started working.

AH yes! I disable loopback so habitually, that I forget that it can be an issue for other users who have not. Glad you got it worked out.
