Laptop isn't getting network connection

I upgraded last night using the Tomato Firmware. I did the Tomato_1_23. After I rebooted, I had internet connection with everything hooked up to the Linksys WRT54G. However, the laptop does not show the network name that I had set up years ago as one of the options anymore. There is no internet connection right now. It says: Wireless_G Notebook Adapter is not connected. I found the name of the one I set up in the list of all the ones that have ever been used and clicked add and it asked for: Network name (SSID) and it was blank there. I didn't know if I was even supposed to do anything with that so I just clicked add. Nothing happened. I'm sure this is an easy fix of somesort. I glanced thru the list of topics and didn't see anything offhand of what would answer this for me. Would someone please give me some suggestions on how to get the network we use opened again? Let me know if you need additional info and I can try to find it out if that would help.
    Thanks!

Did you set the same wireless SSID and encryption scheme/passphrase in your router as before? If you didn't explicitly set wireless parameters in your router, try setting them first before working on your laptop.

After you set them up in the router, try letting your wireless management software on your laptop discover available wireless networks. Select the SSID you set up in the router and enter the passphrase when prompted.

Yes, everything is set up the way it was before the firmware (everything is enabled, shows the same name for the SSID I had set up before I did the firmware - everything is the same on the pc). Then I went to the laptop and here is exactly what I did:
Clicked on Wireless Network Connection Properties,
    Tab: Wireless Networks
Found my wireless name in the list of preferred networks (let's call it Guitar)
I highlighted "Guitar" and then clicked Add
It prompted me with: Network Name (SSID) I tried both - once I tried Guitar and the next time I tried the pw I had set up for the Guitar network. Let's say the pw is "strings" - I put strings into that box when prompted.
In the advanced tab - allow other network users to connect thru this computer connection - it is not checked and didn't know if I needed to.
It's still not working. What am I not doing right or what else do I need to do?

    Still need help

The laptop isn't showing the SSID that is set up for when it searches for them in our area. There must be another step - to open a port or something. The admin page for the router on the pc shows it is set up. What is the step I need to do so it's "open" or whatever so that the laptop finds it as one of the choices to use?
