    Hi!

I have a router that on a connection that's not being used yet (it works, but there's nothing besides the router connected). I've taken a look in the log, is it really true, that the ISP wan't the IP to renew every 30 minutes? Well, the IP is actually the same, but why renew every 30 minutes? It even looks like it takes a couple of requests to get the new IP - or am I reading the log wrong?

Depends on your ISP of course. With the biggest ADSL provider in Sweden, Telia, the router wakes up every 10th minutes to do its DHCP business. :) Hmm, last I checked it was actually every 20th or 30th minutes if I’m not mistaken; don’t know what the advantage of short DHCP lease times are.

    Weird.

Well, it seems like you get a new IP right away, and my router have to wait (actually quite long)?
