Linking a W54RTG with an old MS access point for coverage

    Hello all,

Great site - I have been learning alot about my LinkSys router that i just purchased (W54RTGv3.0). Before I replace my existing hotspot, I have a couple questions:

    1) Currently, I have an old MS 802.1B Wireless access point that I am using. It has done its job, but its time to upgrade. Since my house is three floors, I was thinking of using this hotspot as another accesspoint on the network. So my question is, is it possible to set up this hotspot as another wireless access point on the single network? They would have to communicate wirelessly, as I do not have the capabilities of running a wire between them at this time.

    2) Since the old hotspot will be 802.1b, does that slow down the whole network? At the same token, if I have a device on the network that is using a 802.1b adapter, does that also slow down the whole network?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

    1) No, you can't do this unless your MS AP supports WDS (which it doesn't) if you can run a wire at somepoint you could get it to work

yes, but not significantly the only place you'd have a significant slow down is at the b adapter itself...
